Only open to past Bios Swim Club Participants An intro to open water swimming. A half hour discussion on safety and how get started with open water swimming, followed by a one hour in water open water technique and skills clinic. Prior pool swim experience necessary. Wetsuit required.

- This is a swim group with no lifeguard on duty. We will have paddleboards to assist. Waiver required.

This short intro to open water swimming is meant to help you transition from pool swimming to open water in a low stakes group environment. Learn the basics of equipment and safety as well as technique and skill in open water vs. pool.
DRYLAND 9:00am - 9:30am
- Open water safety
- Temperature concerns acclimation process & equipment
- Currents, wind, boat traffic and other hazards
- Sighting and navigation strategy
- Speed & pacing
- What to do in an emergency
- Swimming-induced pulmonary edema awareness and risk factors
IN WATER 9:30am-10:30am
- Cold water acclimation
- The warm up procedure
- Getting comfortable offshore - staying calm
- Practice swim (incremental distance)
- Practice sighting
- Practice group swim
Wrap up and debrief. After snacks & refreshments. Option for swimmers to bring items to share with the group. Coffee provided.
